Eneida "Mami" Laffont was called to God on Saturday, July 13, 2024, to be reunited with her loving husband, Galo Laffont. She was born on October 12, 1924, in Artemisa, Cuba to the late Octavio Diaz and the late Aida Leon. She settled in New Orleans in 1968 with her husband and her two daughters. She enjoyed spending time with family and her dogs (Lucky, Nala, Gucci and her favorite, Manolo), all of whom she loved dearly. She was a parishioner of St. Dominic and St. Anthony Parishes and attended Mass regularly. She lived a full life until the very end. She is survived by her beloved daughters, Ingrid Laffont, and Eneida Younis (Mustafa); the grandchildren she adored, Bianca Younis and Michael Younis, and her godchildren, Edilia Diaz, Diana Aleman and Eduardo and Octavio de la Grana. She is also survived by her loving brothers, Alberto Diaz, Elier Diaz (Clara), Ellis Diaz (Norka), and Omar Diaz in addition to her oldest nieces, Astrid Angulo and Hileana Gonzalez and numerous other nieces and nephews as well as great nieces and nephews and their families.
She was preceded in death by her sisters, Noemi de la Grana (Eduardo), Ela Acevedo (Angel), Lidia Angulo (Pedro); her brothers, Carlos Diaz (Elda), Manuel Diaz (Edilia), and Claro Diaz (Carmen); her nieces, Edith Benemelis, Lidia (Bibi) Everett, Edith Valdez, Elizabeth Chadbourne and her nephews, Alejandro Sardina, Jorge, Christopher, and Ryan Diaz.
Eneida was a graduate of the University of Havana dental school in 1949. She practiced dentistry in Cuba until 1968 when she came to the United States.
Family and friends are invited to attend her funeral services at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd., Metairie, Louisiana, 70006 on Thursday, July 25, 2024. Visitation will be from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm followed by a Memorial Mass at 1:00 pm. Interment will be in Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum.
