Big Al was a great guy and enjoyed working with him from time to time . My prayers are with you and your family. I would have paid my respects today but I just came home from the hospital on Wednesday and still recovering. He will be in my reflections 🙏

Just learned of the passing of Al West.  He was a GREAT man!  I got to know Al back in the late 90's working in the Second District.  He had a great personality, was easy going, and always a pleasure to work with everyday.  Even after all these years I still remember his wisdom and demeanor which served all of us well.  God bless you Al and your family.  He dedicated his life to law enforcement and he made the world a better place.......

On the day I was promoted to sergeant in the 2nd District AL was the person that placed my sergeant stripes on my shoulders for the 1st time. A moment I will never forget.  AL, Bob Murphy and I worked evening watch and AL showed me all the sergeant stuff I had to do. He made my transition as smooth as possible and was always there to guide and teach me. I am proud to say he was instrumental in my career and a rare old-school policeman. I am truly heartbroken over the loss. And I am so sorry for the loss to the West Family. I know how proud he was of his son and know that he will be there telling those “dad jokes” when we all meet again in heaven. 

I’ve had the opportunity to work with Al during many calls that he responded to with regards to the Third District Fire Dept. We mourn with his family, friends and coworkers on this tragic loss. He was always smiling every time I would see him on a scene. We lost a good one!

Abbie lived in my grandma  house when he was very young.  They moved out when Aunt Dottsy and Uncle Abbie. was pregnant with  Freddie.   Prays to the family.  Love to all.

Al was a great man with a wonderful sense of humor. Loved when he came to visit me at 6901 and at My sister's table.  Overnights will definitely not be the same.

Work will never be the same without you, Sarge. In the 3 years I have known you, you have made a lifelong impression on me. I appreciate everything you have done for me. You truly have helped mold me into the law enforcement officer that I am today. You have left a lasting impression on those who worked for you and along side of you. I hope it is of some comfort to know that Al will live on through those that have had the pleasure of working for him.

Al was my JP partner every year at parades. He kept me safe and made me laugh.  We've all lost a great friend! 

Worked in the 4th district with Al. Many great memories and stories. He was an absolute mentor and teacher of many. The sheriff's office, the community and the world lost a very good man. RIP AL, your brothers and sisters in blue will carry  it from here.

Al was a good guy who could always lighten the mood. I’m going to miss hearing you say, “Jesus Christ, are you ever going to get your own unit” as you handed me your keys for the 100th time. Perhaps I will,  Sarge. Perhaps I will... 💙

Al was a great man. It was an absolute privilege working for Al when I started with the Sheriff’s Office. Al always had something to joke about in the roll call room, that seemed to begin everyone’s tour of duty with a laugh. His knowledge, experience and wonderful personality will be incredibly missed. My prayers are with his family.
