Alfred (Al) Malcom Masangya, a native of New Orleans, LA and a resident of Mandeville, LA went into eternal rest on Wednesday March 30th, 2022 at the age of 73. Former husband of Joanne Oubre Masangya. Loving father of Kelly Masangya Plaier(Jeff) and Kristy Masangya Hastings(Carl). Grandfather of Brent, Anthony, Aly, Ashton, Payton, and Parker. Son of late Gloria Barilleau and Simion Masangya. Brother of Mary Cheramie, Leslie Masangya, Malcom Melan, Irma Pichoff, Elizabeth Guarneri, Michael Melan, John Melan, late Norman Melan, Raymond Melan, Albert Masangya and Alma Acain. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Al was a graduate of Francis T. Nicholls High School, and proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War as a 6th Fleet Sailor 1969 to 1973. After his brave service to our nation Al brought the dedication of the Navy home with him. He was a former employee of the Avondale Shipyard. Al enjoyed spending time volunteering at The Samaritan Center and the Food Bank. He enjoyed horse racing, gardening, and spending time with his family. Al had a love for his family like no other and it did not stop there. He was a selfless man that always put everyone else’s needs before his own.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend memorial services at Leitz Eagan Funeral Home at 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd in Metairie, LA on Sunday, April 10th, 2022. Visitation hours are from 1:00pm to 3:00pm with service to follow. Interment will be private at a later date at Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Slidell, LA.
