Norma Lopez of Mesquite, Texas was called home by our Heavenly Father on Tuesday, April 18, 2023. She was born in Dallas, Texas to the late Jose Y. DeLeon and Dorila M. DeLeon. At a very young age, Norma decided to give her life to Christ and was later baptized at Casa View Baptist Church in Dallas on March 4, 1973.
Norma graduated from UTA with her BS and MA in Social Work. After graduating from UTA she began working at a couple of nursing homes and later became interested in becoming a bilingual elementary school teacher. Teaching pre-kindergarten students was Norma’s love and passion. Norma had a BIG heart for little kids and treated each one like her very own.
Norma is survived by her soulmate & loving husband, Carlos Lopez; son, Christopher Alcerreca (Gricel); granddaughters, Olivia, Amaris, and Layla; sister, Sandra Harris (David); brother, Joe DeLeon (Nohemi); mother-in-law, Elisa Marrero Lopez; sister-in-law, Juanita Diaz (Jose); brother-in-law Adrian Lopez (Martha); sister-in-law, Elvia Marroquin; sister-in-law, Sandra Bravo (Mario); and numerous nieces and nephews.
This special godly woman was blessed to marry a man who shared the same interests, which included attending church together; volunteering their time in different ministries; traveling; baking Christmas goodies for work, neighbors, friends, and family; riding motorcycles along a beautiful countryside close to home. Norma did not like to ride too far from home, even though she was a licensed and experienced driver.
Holidays and birthdays were extra special. Those invited to the Lopez house were in for a real treat with delicious food, homemade desserts made with love, silly games, taking hundreds of pictures for memories, and let’s not forget….”To-Go” food in plastic containers! Norma and Carlos enjoyed hosting events at their house.
Norma’s precious memories will never be forgotten. She touched so many lives and enjoyed life till the end. Special friends of many years that loved and cherished Norma and Carlos’ friendship are: Ramiro & Elizabeth Hernandez; Mark & Lyn Olds; and Roxanne Franco.
Thank you for the prayers and love to the family members. May God bless you and your loved ones.
