Martha Nell Futrell

Martha Layne Futrell, 91, was born September 30, 1931, in Mesquite, Texas and passed away April 11, 2023, in Mesquite, Texas. Martha lived her whole life in Mesquite, Texas. Martha was one of four children and the last surviving child of George Dudley Paschall & Ruby Ella Paschall.

Martha married Ervin Ray Layne and had 3 children Allan, Paul & Amy. Martha later married James Snyder Futrell he had 3 children of his own.

Martha graduated from Mesquite High School in 1949. Martha played Basketball at Mesquite High School and they were state champions of the 1948 High School Girls Basketball League of Texas. The team was inducted into the 2018 Inaugural Mesquite High School Hall of Honor.

Martha was a lifetime member of the First United Methodist Church in Mesquite, Texas, where she taught the 2 year old Sunday School Class for over 20 years.

Martha started her career with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company as a telephone operator in downtown Mesquite. Later she was promoted to the Accounting Department. When Amy was born Martha choose to be a stay home mom. After Amy was grown Martha started a new career with Southern Methodist University, where she retired in 1997.

After retirement Martha started her favorite career of all “Granny” to Caden her great grandson. Nineteen months later Kinley join as her great granddaughter. The next 5 years she kept Caden & Kinley until they both went to Kindergarten.

Martha is survived by her Children, Allan Layne and wife Gladys Woodard Layne, Amy Layne Rodgers and husband Jim. Grandchildren; Allan Layne II and wife Tammy Carlson Layne, Alicia Layne Coplin and husband Richard Coplin. Great Grandchildren; Caden Coplin and wife Madison Wilbanks Coplin, and Kinley Coplin. Allan & Tammy Layne’s children, Madaline & Hal Graham, Micah, Ashton & Brenton, Megan & Alex McDonald, Kinsley, Kearsten & James, Morgan & Chris Brooks, Zakary, Kayleigh & Tyler. She is also survived by a extra grandchildren and great grandchildren, niece and two nephews and great nieces and nephews,

Martha was preceded in death by her son Paul Layne, husband James Futrell. Martha is also preceded in death by her sister Virginia Davis, two brothers; Walter Paschall and George (Rusty) Paschall.
