Joshua Clay Smith, 35, lost his life on March 12, 2022 in Mesquite, Texas. He was born on January 11, 1987 in Dallas, Texas where he grew up and graduated from Bryan Adams High School before attending Texas A&M Commerce. Josh was a package car driver for UPS and he complained about it daily. He would have preferred to go back to working overnight sorting packages but he enjoyed that driver money funding his favorite hobby, riding.
Josh spent his free time playing video games and riding with his best friend, David Till. He had recently purchased his KTM 1290 Super Duke R and was working on customizing it to his liking. Josh would also spend time with his person, Rachel Jones, and her children who absolutely adore Josh. The kids frequently argued about who would move in with Josh when they were 18 so they could drive UPS trucks together.
Josh kept a small circle of friends but he was someone who was kind to everyone and was willing to help when you needed it. Josh had a love for all animals, particularly cats, rats, and opossums. One of his favorite parts of driving for UPS was the many animals he encountered on his routes; like a tiger and a mini pig. There was not an animal he wouldn’t try to pet.
Josh is survived by his parents and his circle of friends, his brother Sean Swafford, his best friend David Till, and his person Rachel Jones. All of our lives are a little darker without Josh. We choose to remember our wild redhead for all that he was and we can move forward knowing that Josh died exactly how he'd want to go, quickly and doing what he loved more than anything.
