John Chavez Jr., age 79, passed away on Thursday, July 18, 2024 in Dallas, Texas. He was born on January 4, 1945 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Juan Salas Chavez, Sr. and Consepcion Mares Chavez. John was raised in Dallas, Texas and attended Thomas Edison Junior High. He married Frances R. Chavez in 1965 and the couple had four children and worked in the sanitation department at the City of University Park.
In his spare time John enjoyed going to church, spending time with his family and friends, mowing and taking care of his yard. He also enjoyed watching, yelling and cheering on the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers and the Dallas Stars, but most of all he loved spending time with his grandchildren. His family and friends will always remember John as a loving and compassionate person who enjoyed helping others and was very strong in his faith.
John is preceded in death by his parents, Juan Salas Chavez and Consepcion Mares Chavez; son, Johnny Chavez III; granddaughter, Kristina Marie Agee and siblings, Dora Castro, Elisa Sosa, Pauline Pisana, Jose Chavez, Domingo Chavez and Jose Inez Chavez. Left to cherish his memory is his devoted and loving wife, Frances R. Chavez; daughters, Annette Richey and Chelo Aiello and husband, Joseph; son, Tommy Chavez and wife, Maria; grandchildren, Cosme Alonzo, Gavi Chavez, Tommy Jr., Johnny Richey, Bella Richey, Alex Agee and Ayden Aiello; siblings, Julia Mendoza, George Chavez, Frances Sepulveda and Paul Chavez; sister-in-law, Connie Orozco, along with a host of nieces, nephews and extended family members.
John worked hard to raise his family. He was a fighter and fought his battle with cancer for twenty years, never once complaining. He always was laughing and smiling and loved to make people happy.
