With his loved ones by his side, Herbert Ross Curtis, Jr., 79 years of age, peacefully passed on to his heavenly home on March 2, 2024. He was born in Jacksonville, Florida and was a longtime resident of Mesquite, Texas. Herbert was a loving, devoted husband to the love of his life, Mary Rinehart Curtis, and a doting, generous father to his children, Matthew and Laura. He adored his two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, as well. Family was of the utmost importance to him, and he loved them all wholly and unconditionally.
Herbert proudly served his country in the United States Army in active duty from 1961-1964, and as a reservist from 1964-1967. Upon his return home, he began working in the Fire Protection Industry which led to the founding of his company, C&S Automatic Fire Protection, Inc. He oversaw its operations until he retired in 2012.
Herbert was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Rinehart Curtis and his brother, Robert Hall Smart. He is survived by his son, Matthew and his wife, Pattie Curtis; daughter, Laura Curtis, grandson, Michael and his wife, Monica Curtis; granddaughter, Taylor and her husband, Kyle Reid; great grandchildren, Declan and Weslie Curtis; sister, Sara Whitt; brothers, John Smart, Jr. and Charles Smart; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, and many dear friends.
Services with military honors will be held at a later date at the Dallas – Ft Worth National Cemetery in Dallas.
