Bobby Don Duckworth, age 86, of Dallas, Texas, passed January 18, 2021, into eternity with the three loves of his life: Jesus Christ, his wife of 41 years, Glenda Duckworth who passed away in 2011, and his daughter, Gwendolyn Duckworth, who passed away in 2020.
Bobby was born in Dallas and grew up in Sunnyvale, Texas. When he was 5 years old he learned to pick cotton on his family farm but did not have his own cotton sack so when he asked for his own sack, his Mother sewed a strap on an old tow sack and Bobby now had his first paying job.
After Bobby was 12 years old he worked in cafes for his brother Norman. Then for service stations, when stations were still full-service. After Bobby graduated from Mesquite High School he went to work for Ford Motor Company in Dallas, Texas, on the body line and from here he answered the call from the United States Army.
After completing his basic training at Ft. Hood Texas, Bobby was stationed in Germany where he met his life-long friend, Bill Hedgecock. All through the years Bobby and Bill shared many good times, memories, lots of laughter and joy, and plenty of good music.
While in Germany Bobby sang for groups every free moment that he had and after he was honorably discharged from the Army he worked even harder on his music. He composed and was lead singer on 2 records produced under the Manco label. Bobby also appeared on the Ft. Worth, the Louisiana Hayride and was a member of the Big D Jamboree after winning a singing contest. After he wrote and recorded his third song, Bobby was experiencing problems with his throat which required surgery on his larynx (voicebox) which ended his full-time career in singing. But Bobby never quit singing for family and friends and never lost his love of music.
Bobby then went on to graduate from Cook/Bakery school, took a small engine course, attended Barber school, and graduated from Masonry school, to become a master of his masonry trade.
Bobby worked hard but also found time for his love of sports. He played softball, basketball and loved to bowl. He was a boxer and fought in AAU tournaments, Golden Gloves tournaments, and fought as a professional for several years. While he was in the U.S. Army he fought in the championship of the 3rd command division.
Shortly after Bobby left the boxing field, he met and married Glenda Page and he, Glenda and their daughter Gwen built a home in the country near Edgewood, Texas, where they all enjoyed the beauty of East Texas and the fruits of their huge garden for several years before they decided to move back to Dallas. After Glenda retired in 2004, they truly enjoyed the retired life until she passed in 2011.
Bobby lived a busy and fulfilled life and will be greatly missed by all those that loved him. Bobby is predeceased by his parents William Robert and Francis (Marshburn) Duckworth; beloved wife Glenda; daughter Gwendolyn Duckworth; brother Norman Duckworth; and sister Tishie Price.
He is survived by his nephews Gary, Robert and Steve Duckworth.
