Saturdays when there was no school, I would walk down the red dog road to Aunt Mabel and Uncle John's house.  The purpose was to play with my new cousin, Billy.  The encounters are sweet memories for me. Play time was always supervised by Grandmother Olive Crow or Mother Mabel.  Billy was the joy of their lives.  As an infant and toddler he presented us with many delights. He was a happy person laughing a lot.
These times ended when my parents moved and walks to visit were no longer possible.  Occasionally, Billy's parents would come to visit us.  Billy and I would continue our playtime.  At this point he would climb trees and hang from low lying limbs laughing all the while.  Soon Billy became Bill.  His life journey and mine made contact infrequent.  The family tie never vanished.  We always managed to catch up quickly in conversation.  His welcome for both David and I was always  
warm and genuine.  We have many fond memories of the precious times together which included jeep rides into the wild and mostly undiscovered parts of Arizona.  For one visit we were blessed to have William Earl sit between us in the back seat. We enjoyed his chatter.
Gwen demonstrated her faithfulness all these years as Bill's wife and William Earl's Mom.  We share the loss of a delightful adventurer in our family.  May the God of All Comfort make His presence know to you, Gwen and William Earl.

In tribute to my Uncle Bill -- He was my inspiration beginning when I was a just a small child.  I looked up to my uncle with pride when he came home in uniform from the service to see our family.  I will never forget the beautiful kimono he brought to me from his time serving in Japan.  He was a great uncle to talk to throughout the years.  He would ALWAYS state the facts of any situation I faced and made everything seem so clear.  I remember when he met and married Aunt Gwen and how he was so proud of her and sent us pictures of them sailing.  When William came into their life I could hear that same pride in his voice as he spoke of him and his accomplishments. He worked hard to provide for his family. My thoughts and prayers are with you Aunt Gwen and William.  One day God will wipe away all tears and there will be no more sadness and no more death.  I love him and will miss him too!

I met Bill when we were both working at Airesearch in 1966. One thing I remember about Bill was when he worked he would whistle. In 1969 I left Airesearch and also got a divorce.  Bill and I became much closer friends after that. We would rock climb on Camelback Mtn and in an area North of Flagstaff.  We climbed the west face of the Superstitions. We put many miles on  the "Patrol" out in the middle of nowhere. Bill bought a sailboat, a Coronado 15, and be introduced me to sailing which become a life long passion of mine.  I remember when Bill met Gwen. Gwen worked at a flower shop doing floral arrangements. Bill was very excited about his new found love and would mail cards to Gwen almost daily. He would drive to the main post office on Washington so the card would arrive the next day. I first met Gwen one night after attending a class at Phoenix College.  Bill asked me to come down to a pizza place on Thomas or McDowell. (can't remember which} Gwen was a cute little thing and Bill was very proud of her.  I was the best man when Bill & Gwen married at a little church close the apartments where Bill lived. After Bill & Gwen married we were still very close friends.  

One night I was laying around at my home and Bill called to tell me he was going to be a father.  He was very happy about that and I was happy for both Bill & Gwen. 

Bill and I never agreed on politics but I can not remember every being in a dispute with Bill. 

I have nothing but fond memories of the 47 years of knowing Bill.  Bill,I will miss you.

enjoyed time gold panning and four wheel driving in Arizona. Bill was one great friend of mine. I will miss him when I come back to Az.

Memories of Bill began when he came with his sister Connie and mother Mabel to live with use for about a year on the farm. He had been going to Howes school, a one room school,  in Long Branch and that wasn't working out well. We swam in the Monongahela river, fished and swam in the South Branch of the Potomac river in WV. Bill moved out to live in the basement of his new home in Low Hill until the rest of the house was completed. In the basement of his home in Low Hill Bill built his first American Flyer railroad layout. Morgantown speedway, a dirt short track in WV, became a destination when there was enough money. Then there was the three of us Bill, John and Herbie. We spent a lot of our free time together. Bill acquired a Royal Enfield vertical twin motorcycle badged as an Indian. That lasted until a high speed trip from Washington to Brownsville blew the engine and Bill and his passenger end up in a roadside ditch only a little the worse for wear. Bill always went all out in any new endeavors. A Hudson Hornet engine was found in a junkyard outing, which launched an effort to construct a stock car for racing. After a while a lack of money ended that project. Bill decided to be a chicken and egg farmer. For his trucking needs he acquired a 1948 Dodge pickup. The bed was too rusty to use so a wooden flatbed was constructed. That truck had character. Bill also had a 1951 Ford that was customized and hot rodded. Notice the emphasis on speed in all cases except the Dodge truck. For a short time Bill was also know as Speedy by a few. Bill, John and Herbie ended when Bill went into the Air Force and John went into the Army. Glad to have shared that time with Bill. Condolences to Gwen and William, cousin Herb Hall.
