Tamara Cavazos Dixon, age 66, of Mesa, Arizona, passed away on July 15, 2024 after a long journey with dementia. She was born in Mesa, Arizona on January 21, 1958, to Maxine Keets Nieswanger and Herb Nieswanger. Tammy attended Mesa High School and spent some early work life at the Dairy Queen on Country Club near Main. She later married and had two children, TJ Lillo and Kenny Lillo. Tammy adopted Cynthia Fowler as her daughter and they spent many days together as her health declined.
Tammy suffered the loss of her husband, Nate in 2009, but was blessed to have a second chance of love and married her surviving husband, Steve in 2012.
Tammy loved children, especially babies. She always needed to make them feel special. Tammy was the family photographer. She is survived by seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She loved her family. Much of her time was spent visiting family on holidays and special events. Her yearly visit to see her favorite cousin, Jim Sholtis and Sheila in Ohio always led to adventure, laughs and memories. Tammy loved to visit beaches around the country and
especially wineries.
Tammy loved creating a homey home. Fenton Glass and Billy Jacobs Art were at the top of her list. She loved most things pink, and there could never be enough Coach.
Tammy was known to enjoy chocolate, wine and ice cream with her family and friends.
Through the years Tammy with her bestie Gina, loved to volunteer with Helping Hands Toy Drive, Relay for Life and the Ronald McDonald House. She had a huge heart to help others. She enjoyed many family outings at baseball and football games. She loved visiting stadiums around the country.
Music was a very large part of Tammy’s life. She enjoyed playing gospel music on the piano. She loved attending various concerts of all genres but Vince Gill was her favorite. She would often sing with or without her friends. She was great at harmonizing.
She lived, she laughed and she loved.
Tammy’s signature smile, warm hug and a laugh that would permeate any room will be greatly missed.
A memorial service for Tamara will be held Saturday, July 27, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM at Mariposa Gardens Memorial Park and Funeral Home, 400 South Power Road, Mesa, AZ 85206.
