Royal was born to Walter and Elsie Johnson on March 29, 1936 and was raised and worked the family farm at Balaton, Minnesota and attended country school through 8th grade. He joined the Army National Guard in Minnesota and served for 3 terms. On July 12th of 1958 he married Betty Van Winkle of Balaton, Minnesota and moved to New Ulm, Minnesota where Royal started their Heating and A/C Company. in 1979 he moved his family to Loveland, Colorado and started a Heating and A/C company until retirement in 1998. They spent time traveling in their Motor Home before settling in Mesa, Arizona, where they spent 22 years. In the 61 years of marriage they were blessed with 3 children, Jerry, Kim and Russell, 5 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Royal was a skilled craftsman in woodworking and also enjoyed music and played a variety of instruments. His passion was flying airplanes; he and his brother Jasper owned a Cherokee Six airplane and had a commercial rating. Royal was an easy-going, fun-loving husband and father, and grandfather. He will be sadly missed. He leaves behind his wife, 1 daughter , 2 sons and 2 brother and 1 sister.
