Robert (Bob) Jack Kost, 97, passed away October 14, 2018 in Queen Creek, AZ where he spent the last 4 years living with his son William and daughter in law Nancy. He was born February 16, 1921 in Williamsport, PA to August Charles and Cora Leona [Heinze] Kost.
Bob married his high school sweetheart, Laura Virginia Swartz on Oct 18, 1941, in Arlington, MA.
Bob proudly served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, servicing landing crafts and guarding prisoners. After the war, he went to work as a machinist for General Electric in MA.
Bob and his family moved to Las Vegas, NV., Oct 18, 1948 and in Nov of the same year, they opened the Kost Mobil Service Station on 224 Main St. By May 1951, they had expanded and opened the Kost Car & Truck Service Station on 1000 S Main St. In 1954, they built and operated the Rainbow Apartment Complex on the Tonopah Highway, where they resided in a home on the property until 1972.
In 1964 Bob came out of retirement and began a 21-year career working at REECO a subcontractor to the Nevada Test Site.
Bob was a lifelong member of the America Legion a 70-year member of the Elks Club and a member of the Teamsters Local 631.
Retirement allowed Bob the freedom to enjoy fishing with his wife Laura, which was their favorite pastime. Together they spent as much time as allowed at their cabin in Duck Creek, UT, enjoying their family and friends. Bob was also an avid sports fan, cheering on his favorite teams the Los Angeles Angels and the UNLV Runnin' Rebels.
Bob was a strong man whose family meant the world to him. He had an infectious smile and everyone who he crossed paths with became a friend. He had a special way of leaving a mark on your heart. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Bob is survived by his son, Bill (Nancy) Kost; daughter in law Leslie Kost grandchildren, Richard (Rebecca) Kost, Kenneth (Stephanie Gonzales) Kost, Cindi (Brian) Robertson and James (Angelique) Kost, great grandchildren, Ashley Joye, Tyler and Connor Kost, Isaiah, Matthew and Nicole Robertson; one great grandchild, Gavin Jay. Sister in laws Gloria Beal (Virgil Snider), Beverly (Clair) Cohick as well as many nieces and nephews and very close friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Louis and William, one sister, Kathryn Elise (Rodger) Kell, his son, Robert L Kost and his beloved wife, Laura Virginia Kost.
Interment will be at the Veterans Cemetery in Boulder City, NV. Arrangements pending.
