After a long, courageous battle with cancer, Robert Arnold Johnson “Bob” age 74, passed away on May 5, 2016. He was born on January 30, 1942 to Arnold and Eleanor Johnson. Bob grew up in Minnesota with his sister Joanne and his two brothers Larry and Alan. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and friend.
Bob is survived by his wife Beverly (Kutz) of 52 years, son Danny (Issa) Johnson, daughter Sherry (Gary) Larkin, son Tom (Hilorie) Johnson, brother-in-law Clarence (Barb) Decker, sister-in-law Sharon (Dennis) Smith, seven grandchildren Cody and Brianna Larkin, Nick, Brooke, Eva, Audrey and Nathan Johnson and many loving nieces, nephews and extended family. Bob is preceded in death by his parents; brothers Larry and Alan Johnson, sister Joanne and grandson Joshua Boughter.
Bob was an extremely hard worker and was employed by several companies over the years; Taystee Bread, Coca –Cola, Hostess, Carnation and Honeywell. After he retired, Bob was an avid golfer and played three to four times a week at the Leisure World golf course. He also loved to host Poker parties where he always “Broke-Even.” Bob was well-known for his 51-foot animal themed barrel train that he built with his son Danny. As the Train Conductor, he loved to give kids rides at the city parades, holiday and neighborhood events and school functions. He proudly displayed his numerous train awards received at the Tempe and Chandler City Light Parades. He was also notorious for decorating his tall Saguaro cactus up as Santa Claus every Christmas. When Bob was not golfing or working on his train, he would keep busy by solving Sudoku and Jigsaw Puzzles and eating Lemon Meringue pie.
We admire his tremendous courage during his battle with cancer. He never gave up no matter how difficult the challenge. His determination and strong will allowed us to enjoy his love for an additional seven years. He is now playing his best golf game ever on the golf courses in Heaven with no handicap.
Services for Bob will be held on Saturday, May 14th 2016, 2:00 pm at Mariposa Gardens, 400 S. Power Road, Mesa, AZ 85206.
