Mary Scenana Reed, age 77, passed away on Sunday, September 5, 2021, in Mesa Arizona. Mary was born in Cherokee, Iowa, the daughter of Melvin and Betty Fastenow of Peterson, Iowa. Mary loved her childhood growing up in a small Iowa farming community.
Her talent for music began developing at age 5 as she started piano lessons, which continued throughout her school years. She accompanied many school groups on the piano, and also played clarinet in the school band. A member of the National Honor Society, Mary graduated from Sioux Valley High School in 1961, and went on to study at the University of Iowa.
Mary married in 1963 and gave birth to her beautiful and talented daughter, Christina Marie in September 1965. She also adopted a son, Jon, in 1970. Mary worked as a keypunch operator and in IBM computer operations, eventually moving to the Phoenix, Arizona area. It was there she met and married the love of her life, Glen Reed, in June 1973. Glen adopted Mary’s 2 children, and they had 2 wonderful sons together, Daniel and James. Her children and grandchildren were the joy of her life! Mary went on to earn a Real Estate License, a Computer Science Degree, and a Management degree. She put all those skills to work in her career at Honeywell, retiring in 2004 as the Supervisor of Contract Services and File & Records
Administrator.
Mary loved dancing (after Glen taught her how), playing bridge and Mah Jongg and “lunching” with her many dear friends. But above all, she loved baking and playing games with her 6 grandchildren (Adalyn, Lauren, Nicholas, Jacob, Max and Nathan).
Mary was preceded in death by her parents and her cherished daughter Christina. Survivors left to preserve her precious memory are her husband Glen Reed, son Daniel (and Brianna) Reed, son James (and Jennifer) Reed, her 6 grandchildren, brother Craig (and Joyce) Fastenow, brother David (and Jackie) Fastenow, sister Rebecca (and James) Bard, many nieces/nephews, and many dear friends.
