Marian L. (Van Meter) Carson went home peacefully to be with the Lord on March 22, 2016, surrounded by her loving family. Marian was born on August 17, 1935 in Thayer, Kansas, and grew up in a hard working farm family. After graduating from Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia, she taught elementary school in Jefferson County, Colorado for several years. While earning her master’s degree in Emporia, she met Roy Carson, whom she married on May 29, 1964. They moved to Mesa, Arizona, where Roy taught school and Marian stayed home with son Monty and daughter Andrea. After nurturing her children into adulthood, Marian returned to the elementary classroom, where she was a much-loved teacher for many years. In retirement, Marian enjoyed spending time with her granddaughters, gardening, traveling, teaching preschoolers at church, and serving with the Women’s Missionary Outreach. Marian was known for her friendly smile, warm hospitality, and faithful Christian witness.
Marian is survived by Roy, her husband of 51 years; son Monty (Julie) and daughter Andrea (Rod) Pauls; granddaughters Anna, Catherine, Emma, Mila, and Mattea; sisters Marjorie Stringer and Phyllis (Howard) Johnson, and brothers Dale (Iris) Van Meter and Wayne (Ruth) Van Meter. She is preceded in death by parents Joel and Irma (Woodell) Van Meter, sister Shirley Powers, and brother-in-laws Floyd Powers and Wayne Stringer.
