“Seeing is believing.” For many, those words simply represent a motto. But for Lynn Marie Kusz, it summarized in every way who she was. She was modest, quiet and observant, taking in everything around her and always thinking before acting. She was a realist, someone who was efficient and practical in everything she did. She was a friendly person who truly cared about those around her.
Lynn was born on August 21, 1965 at St. Vincent’s in Toledo, Ohio. She was the daughter of John Kusz and Annette Sobecki-Kusz. Raised in Toledo, Ohio, she was brought up to be tolerant and trustworthy. As a child, she learned to be conscientious, responsible and punctual. These were all traits that she would carry with her throughout her life.
As a young girl, Lynn was always aware of how others around her felt and this quality served her well. With a deep capacity to tolerate the feelings of others, Lynn was generally able to avoid conflicts. It seemed as if Lynn was the family member who was always working to keep stress at bay. Preferring a quiet environment where she could concentrate, Lynn also had the ability to relate well with her family and friends. She had seven siblings: Jeff Kusz, Michelle Kusz Gauthier, Laura Kujda Sams, Mike Kujda, Karen Kujda Nadolny, Steve Ryder and Stephanie Ryder VonBreeden. Lynn was constantly involved in activities with her family. Lynn and her siblings had the typical rivalries while growing up but they deeply cared for each other and shared many life experiences over the years.
Growing up, Lynn was one of those children who didn’t need to be in the center of a whirlwind of activity. she was content to entertain herself. Lynn was never pushy when it came to games and other activities, but rather, she was able to enjoy the pure fun these could bring. In just about everything she did as a child, Lynn was intent on pleasing both the adults and the other children around her. Lynn took part in a number of activities as a child. She took part in Powderpuff Football, Basketball, Cross Country, Track and Softball. In her spare time she loved to cook and enjoyed being outside. Lynn's memorable achievements included the 1983 Great Lakes Track Champions for the Long Jump, "it was in The Paper".
Lynn enjoyed learning. She always had a great memory and was particularly skilled at retaining factual information. Lynn was generally quiet in class, learning best through observation. She often showed great concentration and was competent at completing the tasks at hand. Good with details, Lynn was painstaking and accurate in her efforts. All of these talents culminated in a successful high school career. She graduated from Whitmer in 1983. Lynn enjoyed some courses more than others, having favorite subjects and teachers. Being active in Powderpuff Football, Basketball, Cross Country, Track, Softball, and participating in the 1983 Great Lakes Track Champions for the Long Jump.
Love can’t be defined but must be experienced. That was so true for Lynn. She was totally committed to Mistie. Although Lynn disliked conflict, she did not take flight from discord, but rather sought to preserve harmony even during the most trying times.
If you gave Lynn a deadline, she would meet it. At work, Lynn was always on task. Without hesitation, Lynn could adhere to any assignment and see it through to its completion. Her primary occupation was running her own business in Landscaping. She was employed for over 26 years. During that time, Lynn excelled in her career. She was able to quickly grasp concrete ideas and could organize and plan the best way to accomplish things with remarkable consistency. Lynn was good at staying on track and was considerate in listening to what others had to say. In this way, Lynn had a true gift for being able to come up with practical resolutions to difficult problems.
Lynn liked to experience things first hand, in addition to simply learning about them. This quality influenced Lynn’s choice of leisure time activities. A methodical and patient worker, Lynn preferred to set aside uninterrupted time to work on her hobbies. Her favorite pursuits were coin collecting, fishing, watching the Bengals play football, enjoyed "Bargan Shopping" and LOVED to play Golf!
While thorough and measured in her approach to things, Lynn often liked to physically do things rather than just think about them. She was like that with sports. In high school, Lynn played Powderpuff football, basketball, cross country, track, and softball. Recreational sports included golfing 3-4 times a week, enjoyed fishing and bike riding. She also enjoyed the statistical data and the facts behind the sports. In this way, she was something of a sports fan and enjoyed watching her favorite team whenever she got the opportunity. Tops on her list were Golf and the Bengals Football games.
Doing things to help others seemed to come naturally to Lynn. She never set out to gain individual recognition, but the praise and accolades given her for her many and varied efforts throughout her life were well deserved. Some of her most prestigious awards included a “Hole In One” on Aril 24, 2017 while golfing with friend Steve Collier. Then 7 months later she got a second “Hole In One” at the same golf course.
Lynn was preceded in death by her dogs Cassie and Sammie. Lynn currently had 2 dogs: Rajah and Summer and 11 cats. Lynn and Mistie’s pets are their children and were very important and loved by Lynn. Lynn was as loyal to her pets as they were to her.
Lynn passed away on January 1, 2018 in Mesa, Arizona. She is survived by her mom Annette Ryder and step-father Bert Ryder, her dad John Kusz and step-mother Sue Kusz, her partner Mistie Moe, her siblings Jeff Kusz, Michelle Kusz Gauthier, Laura Kujda Sams, Mike Kujda, Karen Kujda Nadolny, Steve Ryder and Stephanie Ryder VonBreeden, and her pets Rajah and Summer and 11 cats. Lynn’s life will be celebrated on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at 2:00pm at Lakeshore Mortuary, 1815 S/ Dobson Road, Mesa, Arizona.
It is said that some people can’t see the forest for the trees. Lynn was able to focus on each individual tree, tending to its needs, thus making the forest stronger as a whole. Lynn was a trustworthy, pragmatic and sympathetic person, the kind of woman to whom everyone was drawn. She was thorough and practical. Lynn Kusz was very literal with her words. You always knew where you stood with Lynn. She will be missed dearly.
