Luther Ballentine Wylie passed away peacefully at home on December 28, 2019, surrounded by his family. He was born on June 26, 1935, in Orange County California to John L. and Garfe Ballentine Wylie. Most of his childhood was spent in Santa Ana, Burbank, and La Crescenta, CA areas. During his high school years, he started his life-long career as a grocer. He served in the 510th Tank Battalion in Germany and as part of the 7th Army in Lebanon in the1950’s. After serving honorably, he came home to court and marry Carol Lynn Conant whom he had met in the Broadway Methodist Church Choir in Glendale, CA. They were married on August 23, 1959. They started their life in Tujunga, CA, where
their first two children were born. They completed their family with two additional children after moving to Paradise CA in 1969. In 1974 they moved to Fallon, NV to become part-owners of a grocery store
which eventually became Wylie Family’s Sagebrush Market. In 1985, they moved to Chico, CA, and to Sun City, AZ, in 1997. They moved to Mesa, AZ in 2013 where he spent the remainder of his life.
In addition to his family, Luther loved singing (church and community choirs, solos, roadshows) and riding bicycles (his longest bike-ride from Reno NV. to Orem Utah). Much of his life was spent serving others, he was always looking to lift those in need. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and lived his life following and living the principles of Jesus Christ. He especially enjoyed serving in the Mesa, AZ temple.
After a courageous two year battle with cancer, he is survived by the love of his life, Carol, children, Lynn (Dave) Kishpaugh (Queen Creek, AZ), Wayne (Kathryn) Wylie (Bluffdale, UT), Luanne (Derec) Bradshaw
(Gilbert, AZ), Holly (Dan) Dixon (Highland, UT), 20 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 2, 2020 at 7:00pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 633 S. Higley Rd, Mesa, AZ 85206. The family will welcome visitors starting at 6:00pm.
