Dr. Kevin M. Wright, 50, passed away on September 26, 2013 after a brief illness. A native of Indialantic, Florida, Dr. Wright was a renowned exotic animal veterinarian whose love and devotion to caring for animals began at the age of three when he was given his first tortoise. He received his DVM from the University of Florida in 1988 and after graduation took his dream job as a zoo veterinarian. In 2005, he co-founded an exotic pet hospital, and in 2012 started his own bird and exotic pet mobile practice, the only one if its kind in the area. Dr. Wright was more than just a passionate and skilled practitioner; he was also a prolific academic in his field. He wrote the essential text Amphibian Medicine and Captive Husbandry, as well as over 300 scientific and popular articles. He received two NAVC Speaker of the Year awards and the Exotic DVM of the Year award. He was one of a very small group of doctors, and the only one in Arizona, to earn the title “Diplomate” from the ABVP. His expertise was known all over the world, and he was regularly invited to speak at international conferences. Dr. Wright was well respected by his peers and deeply loved by his human and animal friends, family and clients. He is survived by his beloved wife of 23 years, Marlene, and his many pets.
Kevin’s life will be celebrated by family and friends and his memory will live on always.
