Joyce Ann Smith, 74, of Mesa, Arizona passed away January 8, 2021. She was born September 27, 1946 in Lemoore, California to Orval and Inez [Fugit] Logan. Joyce found enjoyment in watching ASU sports including a coveted trip to the 1989 Rose Bowl and celebrating many family traditions during the Christmas season. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who loved spending time with her family and was devoted to her grandchildren. Throughout her life, she lived overseas, in Germany and Japan, during the post-World War II era, due do her father’s time in the Army. She graduated from Irvin High School in El Paso, Texas in 1964, then went on to Texas Women’s college, graduating in 1966 with her Associate’s degree in nursing. After graduation, she worked as an LPN for many years. Joyce was married to Jerry Smith on August 20, 1966 and were blessed with two children, Jennifer and James. Joyce is survived by her husband of 34 years, Jerry Smith; her children, Jennifer (Kelly), Castillo and James Smith; her grandchildren, Tristan, Brody and Decker Castillo, all from Arizona; and her sister, Carol Sterling Mackey (Charles) of Vancouver, Washington. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
