Janice Carolyn O'Dell

Jan attended elementary school in Eurika Springs, Tennessee and Kalamazoo, Michigan. Graduating from Kalamazoo Central High School, June 1954. She went on to receive a BA degree from Western Michigan University in June, 1958. Jan majored in English, French and Spanish. She went on to teach these subjects before retiring. Jan did post graduate work at Michigan State University, National University of Mexico, and Grenoble, France. In 1960 she received an NDEA government grant to further her career at Michigan State University.

Jan was an avid traveler, she delighted in many trips in her recreational vehicle with special friends. She especially love Mexico and its culture. Her students were special to her and several kept in touch after her retirement. Jan was a voracious reader and a whiz at crossword puzzles. At one stage, she was a co-owner in an income tax preparation office in Vicksburg, Michigan.

Jan is proceeded in her death by her parents; Albert and Lurie O’Dell, sister; Susan Gordon, brothers; David and Joe. She is survived by several nieces and nephews as well as many friends.
