Jack Harold Cook passed away on Sunday, May 29th, 2016 of natural causes. Jack is survived by his wife of 66 years, Almarene Williams Cook, his son James Lindsey Cook, and 2 grand-daughters, Kayla Allyn Cook and Kelsey Grace Cook. Jack’s daughter, Allyn Lee Cook, died in February 2015 of liver cancer. Jack was born in Glendale, CA and spent his young life in southern CA. He and Almarene moved to the Sierra Foothills after he retired from a long career with the US Postal service in which he was a clerk, supervisor, and district manager in San Francisco CA, where he opened the door for many women to work in the postal service. He also spent 3 weeks in China exchanging information on postal service issues. Jack loved to play golf and fish. He served as a volunteer at the Calaveras State Park and moderator at his church, the United Church of Christ in Murphys, CA. He also served on the board of directors with the YMCA in Thousand Oaks, CA. Jack’s education included community college at Ventura Community College, UCLA, and completed graduate courses at Harvard University business school. Jack was a loving husband, father, grandfather, mentor, and a great friend. He loved to laugh and read as much as possible. He is greatly missed but has left a lasting legacy for his children, grandchildren and all other family members.
