The oldest of five brothers and two sisters, Hoan helped to provide for his siblings at an early age and didn’t have the opportunity for much formal education. His work ethic and desire to serve others led him to enlist in the French Army where he was awarded a French Colonial Medal distinction for his bravery.
Hoan immigrated from Vietnam to America with his wife and three daughters in July of 1975 at the end of the Vietnam war. He established his family’s new roots in Arizona, and this was home up until his passing. Without speaking a word of English, Hoan self-taught to become a semi-truck mechanic. With his passion for helping his community and the many refugees, he became everyone’s personal auto mechanic. With just a high school education from Vietnam, and working two jobs to provide for his family, he achieved the American dream of purchasing their family home in just five years. Hoan will be forever remembered for his kindness and generosity in helping many refugees that followed thereafter to adapt to their new homes and pursue the American dream.
Hoan is survived by his wife, Dinh Nguyen and his daughters, Ha, Hong, and Hanh Nguyen, their spouses and six grandchildren, his brothers Huy and Huan Nguyen of Mesa, AZ, his sister, Ninh Tran in Vietnam, and many nieces and nephews. Hoan was preceded in death by his beloved grandson, Brandon Luong.
Services for Hoan will begin at 8:00 AM on Saturday, August 20, 2022 at Lakeshore Mortuary, 1815 South Dobson Road, Mesa, Arizona 85202. Hoan will be laid to rest at Green Acres Cemetery, 401 North Hayden Road, Scottsdale, Arizona 85257.
