Henry “Hank” William Martin Sr., 85, a resident of Gilbert, Arizona, passed away on March 18, 2016, in Chandler, Arizona.
He was born on December 18, 1930, the youngest of 4 children to George and Felecia Virginia (Ronca) Martin in Brooklyn, New York. He was raised in Brooklyn, and married Carol June Ranney (whom he later divorced). In 1951, he joined the US Army, serving in Korea. After his honorable service in the Army, and after earning a purple heart, he became a union ironworker for local 455 in Brooklyn. A longtime resident of New York, after he retired he lived in Florida for 15 years, then moved to Arizona for 12 years. He loved to raise and race pigeons, loved woodworking, and spending time with his family. He was also a member of the Suffolk County Auxiliary Police Department.
Hank is survived by his children Henry W. Martin Jr. and spouse Imelda, Colleen Ann Freytag and spouse Lon, Kathleen M. Martin- Rivera and spouse Louis, Michael Francis Martin and spouse Carmen; grandchildren Erik Freytag, Kimberly Freytag, Daniel Rivera, Michael Martin Jr., Matthew Martin; great grandchildren Talan, Nash and Dax.
A viewing/ visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at 12 pm until 2 pm at Mariposa Gardens Memorial Park, followed by funeral service at 2pm. Interment will be held at a later date. Mariposa Gardens is in care of arrangements.
