Harry Charles Wright, Jr. of Chandler, Arizona passed away peacefully at his home at the age of 72, with his wife and daughter by his side, on Wednesday, March 28, 2018. Harry was born on March 3, 1943 in Chicago, Illinois. He spent many years in Long Island, New York and attended Great Neck North High School. Harry then attended the Cheshire Academy in Connecticut, where he was President of his class and co-captain of the football team. Harry then attended the University of Pennsylvania where he played halfback and was captain of the football team. He was drafted by the New York Yankees and was a member of the 1967 New York – Pennsylvania Baseball League All-Star team. Harry also played and coached for the Kansas City Royals and later in life Westerville Central High School Freshman Baseball Team. Harry had a lifelong love of baseball.
Harry started the next phase of his life owning and running ski shops in Aspen, Colorado. There he formed many softball teams for women and men as well as lifelong friendships. Harry and Melanie were married in Aspen and this is where Harry wishes his ashes to be scattered.
Harry then came back to the East Coast to help take care of his father and started his career in retail construction with Brooks Brothers, Levi’s, Godiva, Abercrombie & Fitch, and finishing up in December 2017 with our country home.
Harry was an avid golfer and enjoyed watching baseball, football, basketball, and golf. He was an accomplished photographer and artist. He was a perfectionist in everything he did and was good at a wide variety of projects. He was also a joke teller and an eternal optimist.
Harry’s greatest contribution was the impact he has on those around him. He was kind and always made the extra effort to help others. He was a mentor to many and he helped guide many people by encouraging them to take risks and believe in their strengths. He was an emotional rock and foundation to those around him. He was always calm under pressure and never complained. He will be sorely missed but never forgotten – by all of us that have been given the incredible gifts and love as we pursue our own dreams in life.
Harry is survived by his wife of 22 years, Melanie; his sister Penelope, brothers Jack and James, and his children, Casey, Matt, and Mark.
Preceding Harry in death are his father, Harry, and mother, Lorraine; stepmother Claire, and brother Tommy.
Harry was a wonderful husband and father that made all of our wishes come true. We love you Harry!
The family will have a celebration commemorating Harry’s life at a time and place to be determined. Thank you for all of the prayers and support over the past year.
Eternal rest grant to Harry, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen
