

With heavy heart, we announce the passing of Eugene Donald Werner, on March 30, 2025 at the age of 87. A loving husband, father, and grandfather of Mesa, AZ, passed away peacefully at home with his loving wife, family and friends by his side.
Gene served in the US Air Force over the course of 11 years. After leaving the military he worked for Magnavox in Urbana, Il as an Electronics Engineer, as well as an Electronic Technician for the Champaign Unit 4 Schools. He worked at the University of Il in the Avionics Department and then went on to retire from Lockheed Martin working at NASA Kennedy Space Center as a Communications Engineer of the Endeavor Space Shuttle.
In appreciation from his professionalism, dedication and support that enhanced space flight safety and mission success he received the NASA Silver Snoopy award.
He was a 32nd Degree Mason and Shriner. He loved riding the tall high wheel bikes in the parades. One of his great passions was trains! Making railroad models both small an dlarge and riding on short train trips and visiting many train museums throughout the years.
Gene enjoyed gardening, (tomatoes were his favorite), playing soft ball at the age of 80 or so... Traveling by car or cruising the waters was a favorite pastime for Gene as well. Always finding new historic places to visit.
Gene was proceeded in death by his parents Donald and Dorothy Werner.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Green; daughters, Debbie (Bill) Peddycoart of Florida, and Joyce Werner of Illinois; along with 8 step children and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Those who knew Gene will remember his sense of humor and his willingness to always help when needed.
