Edmund Sidney Horky, 95, of Mesa, AZ, beloved husband, father, brother, Grandpa, and friend, passed away March 8, 2013. He is preceded in death by his wife, Jean Horky, and brothers, Clifford and Albert. He is survived by daughter Janet Duffel (Dave), son John Horky (Michelle), grandchildren, Kelly Duffel, Emilee, Natalie, and Ryan Horky. Born November 13, 1917 in Sargent, NE, the oldest of seven children of Joseph and Anna Horky, Edmund is survived by sisters, Lorene and Alice and brothers, Joseph and Robert.
Ed grew up on a farm and joined the C.C.C.’s during the Great Depression. Eventually he joined the Army Air Corps in WWII as a crash crew firefighter, where he received the Soldier’s Medal of Valor. After the war, the joined the Merchant Marines and traveled the world. He finally settled in Boston, MA where he met his wife of 51 years, Jean Kennedy. He was self-employed and his livelihood centered on automotive sales. Edmund moved his family to Mesa, AZ in 1970 where he established Ed’s Auto and Trailer Sales until retiring in 1986. After his retirement, Ed and Jean enjoyed traveling and seeing the world together with family and friends. They particularly enjoyed their frequent gambling trips to Laughlin.
Edmund will be remembered as adventurous, honest, strong, kind, resourceful, and independent.
A celebration of his life will be held at Mariposa Gardens Memorial Park and Funeral Care, 6747 E. Broadway Rd., Mesa, AZ on March 19th at 7pm.
