Caroline Jean Sinclair Davis (Jeannie) – age 86, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by loved ones on 12/20/2019. Jeannie was born to the late Thomas McMillan Sinclair and Caroline Willis Sinclair on September 29th, 1933 in Camden, NJ. She was the eldest of five children –Thomas McMillan Sinclair, Jr., Anne Carson Sinclair, Ruth Willis Sinclair, and Doris June Sinclair. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Jeannie married her sweetheart Nile George “Duke” Davis on October 7, 1954 in Camden, NJ. They left the following day to Utah where they resided for nearly 50 years before moving to AZ. They celebrated their 65-year anniversary in 2019. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Family was the heart of her life; she wanted nothing more than to spend time with those she loved. Jeannie and Duke had four wonderful children; Thomas Nile, Jeannie Lynn, Ricky George, and Georgean. From them, they were blessed with 12 equally wonderful grandchildren, and 19 (and counting) great grandchildren. In her words, “There aren’t words describing how much I love all of you. My children, grand-children, little great grand-kiddies, and my whole great big Sinclair Family.”
Jeannie suffered the loss of her son in 1970 and wrote his story which was published in 1980, “Hurry Home Dad, Today I’m going to Die.” At the age of 49, she attended Salt Lake Community College and received her nursing certificate in Practical Nursing.
In Jeannie’s words, “I was a stay-at-home mom, and believe me I wouldn’t have had it any other way. It was a blessing to be home when the kids got home from school, or if I was needed at school during the day. I enjoyed cleaning my home, and doing the things a stay-at-home mom does. Thank you, Duke, for looking after me in that way.”
“Duke always tells me he didn’t promise me a Rose Garden when we got married, but I can share with you now we are planting those Roses in this lifetime, and we will have that Rose Garden on the other side.”
There will be a viewing in Mesa, Arizona at Advantage Melcher Chapel on Thursday December 26th from 6-8 pm. The burial will be in Salt Lake City, Utah at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary on Monday December 30th at 1 pm.
She never said goodbye, and neither will we. You take it easy and we will see you again in your Rose Garden.
