Brian loved a good social setting, making friends wherever he went. He was a no-nonsense guy and lived life to the fullest.
Brian is survived by his children, Mark Shields, Michael Shields and Janell Kaufman; his grandchildren Zakary Shields, Kensi Shields, Maximus Shields and Josephine Kaufman; siblings Jodi Shields and Kathy Shields; and partner Ruth Pengler. He is predeceased by his wife Karen Shields; siblings Paul and Don Shields; and his parents Francis and Nellie Shields.
Brian grew up and spent his early years living in Massachusetts where he started a family with his son, Mark. Years later, his career as a successful salesman brought him to upstate NY, where he met and married his wife, Karen. They had two children together, Michael and Janell. He created solid roots in the Plattsburgh, NY area making lifelong friendships, where he was known as “Number 1” to many. Later in life, Brian moved to Florida, where he spent the last years of his life enjoying a Dewars and soda (or two) with friends at Crabby Bill’s or watching his regular horseracing with his partner Ruth. Brian will be missed and remembered by many, as he never failed to leave a lasting impact wherever he went.
Brian’s burial service will be held Friday, August 4th at 11:00am ET at the Magdala Solitude Cemetery of St. Alexander’s Church in Morrisonville, NY, followed by a celebration of life at the Butcher Block restaurant in Plattsburgh, NY from 3:00 – 6:00pm ET.
Brian’s children invite all family and friends to attend the services. For questions, please contact Janell Kaufman via email at [email protected].
