Billy R. Smith

joined his Heavenly Father on Thursday, March 9, 2017. One of eleven children, Billy was born on January 16, 1933 in Big Sandy, Texas to Richard Orlando and Katie Estell (Thompson) Smith.

His humble beginnings and immeasurable love of family fueled a never-ending commitment to succeed; a commitment that set him on a career path that would include singer/songwriter, machinist, Army veteran, home-builder, pilot, rancher, behavioral health technician, biker and world traveler.

His family meant everything to him. A beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle, Billy is survived by his children Candy Bell, Tammi (Kevin) Crum, Corky (James) Pleasant, and Billy Smith; grandchildren Wendy (Nick) McVicker, Mandy (Angel) Delahaut, Scott (Juli) Stiles, Tyler (Sarah) Coles, Laci (Clay) Sopeland, Billie Dee (David) Ramos, Bailee Smith, Tara (Scott) Saxon, and Anthony (Shawn) Pleasant; great-grandchildren Nicholas, Tori, Sadie, Fallon, Tristen, Tanner, Talon, Layla, Neve, John, Collin, Madison and Will; and sister Wynell Nelson along with many loving nieces and nephews who adored him.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Filbert, J.M., Reese, Ben, and sisters Lucille, Tench, Milbs, Betty and Mary Jo, as well as many loved ones with whom he is enjoying a grand reunion.

A memorial service in celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, March 18, at 3:00pm at Mariposa Gardens Cemetery Chapel, Mesa, Arizona. In lieu of flowers, tribute gifts may be made in memory of Billy R. Smith to The Society of St. Vincent de Paul, PO Box 13600, Phoenix, AZ 85002-3600.
