On Thursday, March 24, 2022, William “Bill” Henry Schick passed peacefully in his Merritt Island home. Bill was born on November 8, 1932 in Reading, Pennsylvania to Cecil and Ruth Schick. In his young adult years, he lived in Texas, England and Milwaukee. Ultimately, in 1964, he moved to Merritt Island Florida where he lived for 57 years.
Bill is lovingly remembered by his children, Stanley and Sandy (David) Dawson, his grandchildren Alexander (Kristina) Dawson and Samantha (Keegan McCleary-Sharpe) Dawson, and his numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends. Bill was predeceased by his beloved wife of 65 years Jewell and his oldest son Wayne.
Bill started his education and career serving 4 years in the US Air Force. Afterwards, he received a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Trinity University and a Master of Science in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Southern California. The majority of Bill’s career was spent working for NASA at the Kennedy Space Center. He obtained the position of Chief Test Supervisor during the Apollo program, and ultimately worked his way up the ranks to position of NASA KSC Deputy Director of Safety, Reliability and Quality Assurance. During his tenure with NASA, he was involved in some notable events which includes Test Supervisor during the Apollo 11 launch and Project Manager of the 1976 KSC 3rd Century America exhibit.
Bill and his wife were both avid travelers, having been blessed to visit every continent in the world. He loved to share his videos, photos and stories of these adventures. He also loved playing bridge and ran the Merritt Island Veterans Memorial Center Bridge Club. He will truly be missed by all who knew him and his memory will live on through his family and friends.
Bill’s celebration of life will be held Saturday, April 23, 2022 at Wylie-Baxley Funeral Home (1360 N Courtenay Pkwy Merritt Island, FL 32953). Visitation will be from 2 p.m. – 3 p.m. Followed by a Memorial service beginning at 3 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Bill’s name be made to the Veterans Memorial Center, 400 S Sykes Creek Pkwy, Merritt Island, FL 32952.
