Stephen received a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering in 1974 from Lawrence Technological University in Michigan. He also held a professional engineering license in mechanical engineering from the Florida Board of Professional Engineers.
He was employed by Lockheed Martin and then United Space Alliance at Kennedy Space Center as a Space Shuttle Program propulsion engineer from 1985 to 2011. He also worked for SGT at the space center from 2014 to 2019. Before moving to Florida, Stephen worked for Williams International in Walled Lake, Michigan, from 1979 to 1985.
He received the Andy Petro Award for Engineering Excellence in February 1990, the Andy Petro Team Award in September 1991, and several other awards and commendations during his time at the space center.
Stephen was predeceased by his father, Paul Christopher, in 2009. He is survived by his wife, Linda Marie, and his mother, Dale Frances. He is also survived by three brothers, Chris, Dave (Mary), and Greg, and two sisters, Julie (Jeff), and Kathleen (Peter), as well as nieces Jessica and Nathalie, and nephews Christopher, Benjamin, and Brendan.
His charitable interests included St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Disabled American Veterans, and Shands Hospital at the University of Florida.
A visitation for Stephen will be held Tuesday, November 5, 2024 from 2:30 PM to 4:00 PM at Wylie-Baxley Funeral Home, 1360 N Courtenay Pkwy, Merritt Island, FL 32953, followed by a funeral service & reception at 4:00 PM.
