On Thursday, July 26th, peacefully at home, Janice L. Burgess went to be with her Lord and Savior, at the age of 88. Janice was born in Rumford, Maine on November 15th, 1930 to Laura Stephens Mace and William F Mace Sr. Janice graduated from Stephens High School in 1949.
Janice is survived by her husband of 64 years, Norman Burgess of Cocoa, Florida, her children Laura May Robbins and husband Niel also of Cocoa, Calvin Burgess and wife Tammy from Mexico, Maine. Janice and Norman are blessed with 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Janice loved the Lord and she spent many volunteer hours at her home churches; the First Baptist Church in Mexico, Maine and Moss Bluff Baptist Church in Ocklawaha, Florida. Many will remember her five day clubs, her work with children at VBS, as well as volunteering in the church office.
A Celebration of Life service will take place at Wylie Baxley Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 30th, 2019, at 11:00 am.Interment to follow at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery, Mims, FL at 1:30 pm.
In lieu of flowers, Janice requested that new children’s books are to be donated at the Celebration of Life service, or can be mailed to her daughters home at 2620 Pinto Circle, Cocoa, Florida 32926. All books will be donated to a local Title1 school where her granddaughter works. Her granddaughter teaches 3rd grade. Janice was an avid reader and her wishes were to encourage reading among future generations.
