George Harvey Moore Jr., 56, of Merced died on March 13, 2017 in Alameda County after a year long battle with his health. Harvey was born May 28, 1960 to Lieutenant Colonel George Moore and Martha Bachelder of Chester, South Carolina. Harvey enlisted in the United States Army right after a brief stint in college and was selected as Soldier of The Year while serving in Germany. Before enlisting in the Army, he took a vacation home to Merced to visit his mother, and it was there he reconnected with an old high school flame, Becky Brooks. During his service in Germany, he and Becky kept a long distance relationship and eventually Harvey was able to serve at Ft. Ord in California and it was there that his relationship with Becky blossomed. After dating for 3 years, he and Becky wed in the Summer of ‘86. Four years later they celebrated the birth of their daughter Ashley, followed by the arrival of their son Nicholas. Harvey was an active member of Christian Life Center, and participated in the Men’s Group there. Harvey was known for his unique sense of humor and his delicious BBQ skills. He is survived by his wife and soulmate of 30 years, Becky, his two children, Ashley and Nicholas Moore, along with his father, George and stepmother Penny, sister Denise (Chris) Bailey and brother Jason Moore, along with numerous family members in Merced and South Carolina. Harvey will be greatly missed as he was such an influential member of this family’s life, but his family knows they will all see him again one day. A visitation will be held Monday, March 20, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Stratford Evans Merced Funeral Home located at 1490 B Street Merced, California 95341. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Christain Life Center located at 650 E. Olive Ave. Merced, California 95340.
