After graduating from Merced High School, he served in the Army during World War II with most of his tour of duty in India as a postmaster. He was a member of the 40et 8 Drum and Bugle Core and American Legion. On January 8, 1949 he married the love of his life, Janice Alvord. He worked at Foster Farms for several years but retired from PDC in 1994.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lauriano and Maria Freitas and his brother Joseph Freitas.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years Janice Freitas; two brothers Clarence & Harvey; eight children Pam (Tom) Darley, Ronnie (Mary), Gary, Judy (Timm Shepherd) Wade, Teresa (Jerry)Brummell, Edie Lough, Loren, & Mary (Charlie) Fryar; 29 grandchildren & 33 great grandchildren.
A viewing will be held at Stratford & Evans Funeral Home on Thursday December 19 @ 6pm with a Rosary at 7pm. A service at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church on 21st Street in Merced will be held on Friday December 20 @ 10 am with grave side service immediately following at Merced District Cemetery.
The family request that in Lieu of flowers donations be sent to Hinds Hospice.
