Catalina Sanchez

March 24, 1919 – April 8, 2011

Catalina V. Sanchez, a Planada resident for 65 years passed away peacefully on April 8, 2011 in Planada, California at the age of 92 years.

Catalina was born to Fortunato and Manuela Valdez in Nogales, Arizona on March 24, 1919. She was a resident of Tulleson, Arizona for 17 years before moving to Planada in 1946. She worked as an Avon Representative for and worked seasonal for Tri Valley Growers for many years. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Planada, where she enjoyed singing in the choir. She was also a member of Benificencia, and Curcillistas.

She was preceded in death by her son, Alfred Sanchez; parents; Fortunato and Manuela Valdez; brothers, Fortunato, Enrique, Jesus, Daniel, Manuel, Arturo, Jose, and Esteban; and sisters, Augustina, Maria, and Hortencia.

Catalina is survived by her husband of 65 years, Ladislao (Lalo) Sanchez of Planada; sons, Ben (Sharon) Sanchez of Merced and Ed (Sharon) Sanchez of Surprise, Arizona; daughters, Stella (Richard) Pino of Merced and Lupe (Greg) Barriga of Merced; 15 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 14, 2011 from 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. at Stratford Evans Merced Funeral Home in Merced and Friday, April 15, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Planada. Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Friday, April 15, 2011 at 7:30 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Planada. Burial will follow at Plainsburg Cemetery in Le Grand.
