Carmen D. Stokes, age 72, passed away on Saturday, July 9, 2011, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton. Carmen was born on May 11, 1939, in Humacao, Puerto Rico, daughter of the late Vincente Fontanez and Aleja Garcia. She was married to Jose Manuel Rosario; he preceded her in death. She then married Rafael Munoz; he preceded her in death. Carmen was then wed to Kenneth Stokes; he also preceded her in death. Carmen had worked for Valley Inn for a couple of years before going to work at Valley Packaging. She retired from there in 2001. Like clockwork, Carmen would never miss her Spanish soap operas, the telenovelas. When Carmen was able to, she would love spending time at Hazen and Mary’s, her in-law’s, cottage in Boulder Junction. Being outdoors and going boating was something she looked forward to every summer.
Carmen will be missed by her loving children: Maria (Price) Clough, Pedro Munoz, and Karina Stokes; her grandchildren: Hazen and Spencer Clough, Tina and Jerret Munoz; her siblings: Raul (Clara) Fontanez, Richard (Elba) Fontanez, Israel Sanchez, Hector Sanchez, Angel (Carmen) Sanchez, Luz Sanchez, Wilfredo Sanchez; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A memorial gathering to celebrate Carmen’s life will be held on Wednesday, July 13, 2011, from 12:00 - 4:00 pm at Stone Toad Bar and Grill, 1109 S. Oneida Street, Menasha.
