Suzanne DeBardeleben Dunlap, age 63, of Memphis, Tennessee passed away on Friday, November 26, 2021. Suzanne was born June 29, 1958 in Memphis, grew up in Holly Springs, Mississippi, and attended Marshall Academy. She graduated from the University of Mississippi with a bachelor's degree in Social Work. She was a member of Delta Gamma Fraternity and a Sigma Chi Little Sister.
Suzanne raised her family in Holly Springs where her house was THE gathering place for her three children and their many friends. From dressing up in her old formal wear to battle royals on the trampoline, Suzanne ensured that her house was always a place where children had the freedom to make the memories that would last a lifetime. Along with her love of children and helping people, she had a big heart for animals. Her life would not have been complete without her animal children.
From camping to beach vacations, Suzanne loved to travel with her family. Together, from coast to coast, they enjoyed many adventures, big and small.
Suzanne spent her life helping others. She began her career in Social Work, later becoming a Lactation Specialist and Early Interventionist. For the past 15 years, she loved being a Special Education Teacher. She affectionately cared for her students as she would her own children.
She is survived by her children, Anna Chapman (Allen), Thomas Dunlap (Avery), and Grace Dunlap; grandchildren, Isabelle and John Maxey Dunlap and Emma Chapman; brother, Rick DeBardeleben (Julia); sister, Julie DeBardeleben; four nephews; and her dog, Pippin. Suzanne was preceded in death by her parents, Frederick Alexander DeBardeleben, III and Nita Sutherland Gilstrap.
The family will receive friends at a visitation on Friday, December 3 from 9:00 AM until the memorial service to celebrate her life at 10:00 AM, all at Memphis Funeral Home, 5599 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, TN 38119.
