Russell Scott was born in Montgomery, AL on November 21, 1966. He was the fourth child born into a home of love, laughter, faith, and football. Russell made his mark early as a fun-loving, kind-hearted, life-of-the-party daredevil with a quick wit and unmatched humor. He had the uncanny ability to make everyone he met feel at ease across all socioeconomic levels and stations in life.
As an IT professional, running his own business for much of his career, he was gifted with the technical knowledge to diagnose any problem and the social skills to communicate a solution to clients regardless of their tech savvy-ness (or lack thereof). He spoke the language of the CEO and the janitor, and everything between, making everyone feel valued and empowered.
Russell had a love of people that went far beyond his career. As a longtime active member of the Memphis Parrothead Club, he loved participating in bar-b-que cookoffs and social events, even hosting talent by his backyard pool surrounded by his friends. He also loved chaperoning and assisting with his kids’ sports, theatre, and church activities, always showing pride in their accomplishments and endeavors.
Russell was also an avid Auburn fan. He rooted for his tigers from the time he was old enough to articulate the words “War Eagle”. He loved everything about Auburn football, from the tailgates to the socials and games. He saw everyone in town as part of his Auburn family and extended an invitation for all to join in his festivities. He had an extensive collection of Auburn hats, including those passed down from his father Max.
Russell was most proud of his children: Hannah, senior account executive in the fashion industry in L.A. and Curtis, singer/songwriter in Memphis. He even trained his faithful dog Cambo to sing along in jam sessions (especially when someone broke out a harmonica).
Russell loved his family, friends, food, fun, and animals. He is preceded in death by his beloved mother, Helen Wyatt Scott, and dad, Max Franklin Scott. He is survived by his daughter Hannah and son Curtis; his three siblings Jimmy (Brenda) Scott, Nita (Jim) Stillwell, Suzanne (Pat) Trammell; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends!
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Bartlett United Methodist Church on Monday, Sept. 16 (Visitation at 12; funeral at 1). Donations may be made to IrreverentWarriors.com Attire is as Russell would’ve wanted – tropical shirts or Auburn attire. War Eagle!
