Rhonda Charmaine Tate, wife, daughter, sister and woman of unwavering faith passed away Friday September 28, 2012. After a long battle with cancer, the Lord called her home at the age of 47. Her loving grandparents W.P. and Murphy Riley preceded her in death. Rhonda was a graduate of Overton High School, Class of “83”, where she was a member of the show choir and the chamber singers. She was married in 1987 to Victor Tate, a tender and devoted husband who cared for and supported her until her death. Rhonda was a graduate of Memphis State University with a double major in Psychology and Sociology. She had numerous talents that included music, writing, and encouraging others through Christ. In her professional life she held various positions in the fields of mental health and business. Prior to her illness she displayed her creative talents by providing private interior design services. As a true disciple, Rhonda was an active member of Central Church for many years where she sang in the choir, served on the Women’s Ministry Board, and participated in many church sponsored and community events. She proudly served as chair of the National Day of Prayer in 2011 for the town of Collierville. Rhonda is survived by her husband of nearly 25 years, Victor Tate, her parents, Louis and Carolyn Vaughn, mother-in-law, Florence Tate, two sisters Deidre Vaughn Sharp (Octavian), Christina Vaughn, three brother-in-laws, Charles Tate (Luella), Paul Tate (Deloris), Raymond Tate, and one sister-in-law, Toni McLauren. Rhonda leaves a large and loving extended family comprised of aunts, uncles, cousins, seven beautiful nieces and three wonderful nephews to cherish the many years God blessed us with her. She was preceded in death by her father-in-law, Charles E. Tate, Sr. and a nephew, Raymond C. Tate III. The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 4th from 4 – 6pm at Central Church, 2005 East Winchester Blvd. in Collierville. The celebration of Rhonda’s life will follow at the church beginning at 6pm. A private burial will occur on Friday. Online condolences may be made at www.memphisfuneralhome.net.
