He was born of August 17, 1940 in Arlington, Tennessee.
He was married to Martha Ann Barker on March 28, 1960. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Martha Jackson; his sister-in-law, Bobbie Jean Grisham; his two daughters, Coral Butler and Karen Flippin (Dane); his four grandchildren, Mason Butler (Aleah), Jackson Butler (August), Mallory Carlyle (James) and Emma Flippin; and his several surrogate grandchildren, Connor Jackson (Reyna), Anne Jackson, Sophia Grasso, Phillip Grasso, Nathan Mans, Brenna Wesson (Alex), and Lucas Mans. Wayne is also survived by many nieces and nephews who he loved dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Norma Jackson; his son, John Jackson; his two brothers, Alva Jackson and Don Jackson; his sister, Bobbie Florence Ricketts; and his grandson, Carter Dane Flippin.
Wayne worked for the City of Memphis as a carpenter and locksmith.
He was a member of the Catholic Church and a member of the St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Cordova, Tennessee. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge.
He was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy serving from 1959-1964. He served aboard the USS DeHaven DD-727 from 1959-1960.
He enjoyed traveling and spending time with his wife and family. He enjoyed golfing and was an avid collector of guns and knives. He never met a stranger and everyone was his friend.
The funeral service for Wayne will occur Saturday, December 17, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Memphis Funeral Home located at 5599 Poplar Ave, in Memphis with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM. The committal service will follow at Memorial Gardens located at 3700 North Germantown Parkway in Bartlett.
