Nancy Mitchell Dold, 58, of Memphis passed away on Saturday, February 7, 2015 after a brief illness. She was the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. John L. Mitchell, and was the loving wife of Mr. Ronald P. Dold. She was a graduate of Central High School and received her B.S. from Mississippi State University. She was an avid equestrian and briefly pursued a career working with racehorses in Oklahoma and California. She returned to school and received her M.S. from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.
Nancy worked for twenty-five years as the gift store manager and comptroller for The Metal Museum. Director Emeritus Jim Wallace credits Nancy’s devotion to her job as part of the Metal Museum’s early success.
She was preceded in death by her mother Anne Mayzell Halford Mitchell and her mother-in-law Louise A. Dold. She is survived by her husband Mr. Ronald P. Dold, her father Dr. John L. Mitchell, both of Memphis, her sister Carrie LeeAnn Mitchell and brother-in-law Jim Buonaccorsi of Farmington, Georgia. She is also survived by her uncle Gene G. Williams of Hobart, Oklahoma, her cousin Gena Williams Moore of Memphis, and Larry Halford of White Pine, Tennessee. Additional cousins all from Mississippi, include Juanita Halford Sutton, Michael Halford and Cloyd Halford.
Nancy loved animals, gardening and working in her beautiful yard. Many, especially the numerous artists, both national and international that she worked with at the Metal Museum will miss her.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, Feb. 12 from 5-8pm at the Memphis Funeral Home 5599 Poplar Ave. Funeral services will also take place at the Memphis Funeral Home on Friday, Feb 13 at 11:00am.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials to Nancy be sent to the Memphis Zoo or the First United Methodist Church Building Fund.
