A lifelong Memphian, she attended Tech High School, marrying young to Fred Ray Key in 1949. His military service took them to the west coast where the first of their three daughters, Pamela Wooten Egbert, was born in 1955. Returning to Memphis, they purchased their first home and gave birth to their second daughter, Kathryn Fitzpatrick, in 1957.
Fred began his career at Memphis Light, Gas, and Water, and Myra, as customary of the time, became a homemaker. Their third daughter, Judy Thomas, was born in 1961, as was the founding of Raleigh Tire Service, Inc., their family business. Myra contributed as the bookkeeper of Raleigh Tire Service, Inc. for many years.
A devoted wife and mother, she is preceded in death by her parents, sister Barbara “Bobbie” Joann Stanley Draper, brother Kenny, Fred, Pam, and Judy.
She is survived by beloved brother and sister, Charles Hall and Sue Beasley; daughter Kathy; Treasured Grandchildren David Dustin Wooten, Sean Key Fitzpatrick, Tiffany April Blanchard (Max), Tabitha Amber Modisette (Davin), George Tanner Thomas; and Great Grandchildren Olivia and Berlynn (Tiffany), Arabelle (Tabitha), as well as devoted Son in Law, Tracy Thomas (Judy).
A visitation for Myra will be held Saturday, February 19, 2022 from 9:30 AM until 10:00 AM at Memphis Funeral Home, 5599 Poplar Ave, Memphis, TN 38119. A funeral service will immediately follow at 10:00 AM, at the funeral home. A graveside committal service will occur Saturday, February 19, 2022 at 1:00 PM at Browns Church Cemetery, 181 McLeary Road, Jackson, TN 38305.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or a charity of the donor’s choice.
