Maxine Stephenson Turner, age 98, of Corinth, Mississippi passed away on Wednesday, November 30, 2022. She was born January 17, 1924 in Alamo, Tennessee, to Ada and Walter Stephenson. She retired from the University of Memphis after 20 years serving as secretary in the Biology Department. Maxine was a longtime member of St. Luke United Methodist Church, having served as officer in the United Methodist Women and Sunday school.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Chalmer, a sister Reba, and her husband Robert in 1985. Her survivors include two daughters Patricia Pierce of Corinth, Mississippi. and Carole Watkins of Phoenix, Arizona, as well as five grandchildren Ruth Kelly, Calvin Pierce Jr., Matthew Watkins, Molly Burress, and Rachel Watkins, and five great-grandchildren Maggie Floyd, Michael Kelly, Sarah Pierce, Calvin Pierce III, and Sam Pierce.
The family will receive friends at a visitation on Tuesday, December 6 from 1:00 PM until the funeral service at 2:00 PM, at Memphis Funeral Home, 5599 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, TN 38119. Graveside committal service will immediately follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
