Luther Edwin White, of Memphis, Tennessee died on November 4, 2016. Born in Sumner, Mississippi on August 23, 1916, one of three children of the late Mr. & Mrs. Grover Cleveland White. He had an eighth grade education and has worked the rest of his life in numerous occupations. He finally retired as a warehouse supervisor for Cleveland Container Company here in Memphis. He was a veteran of the 79th Division of the U.S. Army that stormed Utah Beach on D-Day during WWII. He loved to listen to W.Y.P.L. all day long. Starting with the reading of the Commercial Appeal in the morning, afternoon novels, and the daily music during the evenings after the nightly news. The family invites all to attend a catered gathering on Thursday, November 10, from noon until funeral services begin at two o'clock in the afternoon all happening at Memphis Funeral Home, 5599 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, Tennessee 38119. Staff celebrant Jonathan Matthews will lead the service which will conclude at the funeral home with military honors. Burial will conclude the day at Memphis Memory Gardens Cemetery where Luther will be buried next to his wife Iva Allen White. Mr. White is survived by his three children Evelyn (Tony) White, Erlene (Michael) West, Buddy (Cheryl) White; eight grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
