Johnnie Edward Sneed Sr., age 99, of Memphis, Tennessee passed away on Wednesday, July 27, 2022. Johnnie was born April 28, 1923, in Olive Branch, Mississippi, to William Lawrence Sneed and Elizabeth Shepard Sneed.
Johnnie served in the U.S. Army during World War II, serving in the European Theater as a tank driver. After the war, he returned to Memphis and began a lifelong career as a carpenter in home construction. He was a member of Cherry Road Baptist Church. He enjoyed spending time with his family.
Johnnie was preceded in death by his daughter, Cheryl Ann Romanoli; 5 brothers; and 2 sisters. He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Clara Sue Sneed; children, Rosie Gay, Johnnie Sneed Jr. (Donna), and Dennis Sneed (June); 7 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 2 at 9:00 AM until the funeral service at 10:00 AM, all at Memphis Funeral Home, 5599 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, TN 38119. Interment with military honors will immediately follow at West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery.
