I literally had a conversation with Mitch in a dream last night and, when I woke up, I looked up his website to see what he was up to. It was with shock and grief that I found he had passed away last week and I'd missed his funeral.

To his wife Kathy, his children, parents and all who loved him, you have my prayers that God grants you comfort in this time of sorrow. I am sorry I didn't hear (I now live in Poplar Bluff, MO) about his death and missed the visitation and services.

I'll always cherish the hours spent with Mitch when we were young and full of hope and dreams. I had the joy of doing the production art on all five issues of The Last Generation and attended many conventions and seminars along with Dave Porch and the rest of the LG gang.

I had only talked with Mitch a handful of times by email since the era of the internet began and now wish I'd done so one more time at least . . .

I loved Mitch. I considered him a friend and a great artist.  I always hoped to see him again. Even tho I haven't seen him in over 20 years,  I sit here with tears running down my cheeks at the news of his passing.   God bless you and yours.  Mitch will be truly missed in this world.

Mitch was a such a wonderful, talented, and unique artist in the world of science fiction and fantasy. He was a MidSouthCon Guest 
of Honor several times - he and Kathy have always been supporters of our convention.

But moreover, Mitch was one of the most sincere, thoughtful, giving, and friendly people in fandom. He will be greatly missed by all of his fans and friends.

Mitch,  I will never forget the wonderful mentoring and career advice you gave to me 3 decades ago before I went off to art college. Your helpful sweet disposition, kind heart and warmth will be forever missed and I will cherish those conversations the rest of my days. You are and will always be awesome my friend.  I will miss you.

I met Mitch back in 1989 , we worked for the same company . He was the airbrush artist in the Mall of Memphis and I worked for the screen printing company owned by the same people.  Over the years we developed a friendship that has lasted a lifetime.  He was an incredible artist and a very funny guy. I will always remember his laugh. My heart goes out to his family. Sending thoughts and prayers. Mitch made his stamp in life. He will be remembered by many.  Your friend,  Allen.

It was my great privilege to meet Mitch at Archon many years ago, and to have original art that he created based on my cosplay. I treasure this beautiful art, the kind and lovely conversations, and the other wonderful pieces he created.

I just received the news of Mitch's passing and I am terribly saddened by the news. Over the years I came to know and greatly enjoy Mitch's company, conversation and art work at the yearly show in Atlanta. I can't imagine the show without him, he had such a prominate and respected presence in the show and with the other artists in attendence. It won't be the same workout him. I'll never forget his wit, charm and generosity. My condolences and deepest sympathies to his family and friends. 

Adam and I were so sad to hear the news of Mitch's passing. He was funny, talented and a pleasure to be around always. We will miss his art popping up on our Instagram feeds.  Much love and sympathy, Adam and Penny

I was a fan of Mitch's art long before I ever met him.  I didn't realize it but I first saw his work at The Wild Hare, the airbrush t-shirt shop in Mall of Memphis (later relocating to a stand-alone shop) in the 80s and 90s.  He did the art for Memphis Fantasy Con hosted at the downtown Radison Hotel in the mid 90s and I was fortunate enough to be the winning bidder for the original art at the end of con auction.  He was a fixture of the Memphis area con family, someone that you just expected to see.  No matter how large or small your convention was, Mitch was there to support it.  Years later I would get to know Mitch as a vendor and over time become friendly if not friends.  I fondly remember sharing a piece of music with him that he found moving; for a non-artist to share something with an artist that strikes a chord with them is rare and special.  He was laid back & affable...always generous with his time and his art and gave some uncommon support in stressful situations.   
I will miss him greatly.

Mitch was such a wonderful person, always so kind to people and so very, very talented. I met him at a convention long ago and we became friends. I treasure every conversation I ever had with him.  He encouraged me and supported my work as a writer. I was so impressed by his artwork of strong woman that I covered one of my office walls with pictures he had drawn to remind me and inspire me when I write. He was also kind enough to share words of wisdom to my daughter regarding her art.  I will never forget his kindness and his light. My heart goes out to Kathy and Mitch’s children, grandchildren, parents, and all of his family, I know he loved you all so very much. You must know that not only did he love his family but he also touched many lives throughout his career and Mitch will be missed by so many.

Mitch was one of my favorite vendors and artists to work with at MIdSouthCon.  He will be missed and my prayers and thoughts are with his family.

I remember meeting Mitch during a convention where he sold such magnificent pieces. He was kind and easy to talk with. It was like having a cup of warm tea with a friend after a long journey. Thank you Mitch for the wonderful art that hangs in my home. 

I enjoyed interacting with him at Cons, and am fortunate enough to own some of his art. If God needs help painting sunsets, Mitch could certainly do the job. Rest easy, and condolences to family and loved ones.

The sadness of your passing will never diminish the friendship, memory, and joy your passage through our lives gave us.  We are grateful you were here.

Kathy you and your family are in my heart. Mitch was a good friend I looked forward to seeing every year in Atlanta. I’m grateful for years I had knowing him, for the wisdom he shared as a peer and for the kindness he showed me and my daughter. He was one of her favorites. He will be missed.
