Janie E. Estes, of Germantown, Tennessee, died peacefully at her home October 8, 2022. She had been under Hospice care recently, having suffered a stroke in 2017. She was born May 6, 1943, in Little Rock, Arkansas, the oldest child of James Earl and Helen Stocks. She was raised in North Little Rock until her senior year in high school when her family moved to Pine Bluff, Arkansas. She graduated from Dollarway High School, and then attended Bethel College in McKenzie, Tennessee for two years.
She is survived by her husband, the Rev. George R. Estes, and four adult children: Jerry Estes, Memphis, TN; Mark Estes, Garland, TX; Keryl Estes Luft (Perry), Murfreesboro, TN; and Michael Estes (April), Bartlett, TN; one grandson, Adrian Poe, Owen, WI; three brothers: Ed Stocks (Nancy), Garden City, ID; Patrick Stocks, Boise, ID; and Mark Stocks, Cabot, AR; nieces Kendall Batchelor; Madison Stocks; Natalie Stocks; and a nephew, Gentry Stocks.
A lifelong Cumberland Presbyterian, she was a pastor’s wife, and was employed by the Cumberland Presbyterian Church Board of Stewardship at the time of her retirement. A Memorial Service will be held November 12 at 2 pm at Cumberland Presbyterian Church of Germantown, 2385 Riverdale Rd., Germantown, TN 38138. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to CPC of Germantown, First Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Lubbock, TX, or Memphis Theological Seminary.
