James was born February 14, 1943 in Memphis, TN to the late Helen and Benjamin Franklin (B.F.) Maddox.
James is survived by his loving wife, Mary Louise Maddox, daughters Theresa Nichols (husband Timothy) and Patricia Maddox of Memphis, TN, his brother, Glen Allen Maddox (wife Brenda) of Eads, TN, his grandchildren, Hannah Bailey of Denver, Colorado, Timothy (T.J.) Nichols (wife Jillian) of Christiana, TN, Travis A. Nichols (wife Taylor), Taylor Addison Nichols, Melissa Burns of Memphis, TN, and one great granddaughter, Addison Christine Nichols.
James & Louise just celebrated 54 years of marriage on December 11, 2019. James was a professional Butcher at Montesi and later with Piggly Wiggly where he retired in 2008. Over the years, James enjoyed several hobbies including taxidermy, leather work, photography, fishing, hunting, drawing, chatting and joking with friends and family, and anything and everything to do with guns. James loved to visit folks that were home bound and at the hospital. James and Louise volunteered with the Moscow Food Bank and were Hospice Volunteers in Oakland, TN. They were active and dedicated members of Southland Baptist Church when they lived in Parkway Village area of Memphis until they moved to Collierville, TN where they were members of First Baptist Collierville. After James retired, they opened a Bed and Breakfast in Oakland, TN and were members of Oakland First Baptist Church where he was a Deacon. James even obtained his Massage Therapy license in order to work side by side with his wife in her business. Due to his health, they moved back to Memphis and had recently moved their membership to Whitten Memorial Baptist Church.
The family would like to extend our deepest appreciation for the prayers, love and support shown by family, friends and caregivers.
Family will receive guests on Saturday, January 4, 2020, from 1-2pm with a going home celebration service at 2pm at Family Funeral Care, 4925 Summer Ave., Memphis, TN 38122. Burial will immediately follow at Memphis Memory Gardens, 6444 Raleigh Lagrange Road, Memphis, TN 38134.
