Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 51 and half years, Nancy Jones Bass; his daughter, Stephanie (Nathan) Prince; his son, James “Jay” (Kristy) Robert Bass, IV; and seven wonderful grandchildren, Jonathan Prince, Joseph Prince, Joshua Prince, Ellie Bass, Jimmy Bass, Annie Bass, and Henry Bass. He is also survived by his sister, Mary B. (Jim) Hines; his brothers-in-laws Keith Jones and Kenneth (Mickie) Jones; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Jim graduated from Columbia Military School in 1962 and remained an active member of the alumni association throughout his life. Upon his discharge from the U.S. Navy, Jim attended University of Tennessee at Martin and graduated with a degree in Business. After several years working in the business community and serving parttime in the Tennessee Air National Guard, Jim returned to active duty. He served with the TANG until his retirement in July 2001. Upon his military retirement, Jim served as an aircraft mechanic with FedEx until May 2016.
Jim was passionate about his faith and his family. He was a devout member of Faith Baptist Church, Bartlett and a member of the John Luce Sunday School Class. Throughout his life, Jim freely gave of his time and resources to help those in need. He was an encouragement to all and is remembered by many for his kind words and smile. Jim is truly missed by all who have known him.
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 13, 2023 from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. at Faith Baptist Bartlett, 3755 N. Germantown Rd, Bartlett, TN. The memorial service will be held immediately following visitation at 3:00 p.m. His ashes will be interned at West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Jim’s memory may be made to Faith Baptist’s Building for the Future fund.
